A Quiet Goodbye and a New Beginning
When our former brick-and-mortar store finally closed this fall, the silence was almost comforting. For years those doors had opened to the scent of coffee and wood polish, to laughter, forklifts, and families with snow on their boots. Ending that chapter was bittersweet—but also peaceful. It felt like finishing a long Vermont winter: hard work behind us, new growth ahead.
“We learned that furniture isn’t about products; it’s about belonging.”
Our store was built around people. Families came not just to shop but to feel at home. A sofa held stories; a dining table hosted birthdays and maple-syrup breakfasts. That sense of warmth is the heart we carried into Elm Hill Furnishings.
Starting Over from Home
When the liquidation signs went up, we packed years of displays, invoices, and memories into boxes—and brought home the things that mattered most: our cherry-wood desks, our determination, and our belief that Vermont craftsmanship still matters.
At a small desk overlooking the ridge where morning mist settles, Elm Hill Furnishings was born—not in a boardroom, but in a kitchen warmed by coffee and wood smoke.
Elm Hill is about keeping what was good and letting go of what was heavy.
Now, instead of waiting for someone to walk through our door, we meet them where they are—at kitchen tables and laptops, dreaming of spaces that feel like home.
Craft, Character, and the Vermont Way
Years on the showroom floor taught us what lasts through kids, dogs, and mud season. Quality doesn’t shout; it endures. Elm Hill is built on that same quiet strength—curating pieces from makers who honor wood, fabric, and form.
Even while we wait for new vendor partnerships to finalize, our compass stays steady: build an online space that feels as personal as stepping into our old store.
Designing for Real Life
Our own home office became the first test room. The cherry furniture we saved anchors the space; around it, modern accents, soft rugs, and greenery. It’s the balance we want Elm Hill to represent—heritage meeting modern life.
Working from home slows us down in the best way. The dogs nap under our desks, snow drifts outside, and we’re reminded that business—like Vermont seasons—thrives on patience and rhythm.
From Main Street to Your Home
Our motto came naturally: From Main Street to Your Home. Vermont Main Streets have always been about connection—neighbors helping neighbors, handshakes and trust. Bringing that spirit online is our joy.
When someone orders from Elm Hill, they’re supporting more than a store. They’re joining a story: a couple rebuilding after change, local makers finding new audiences, and a shared belief that craftsmanship and kindness still matter.
Rooted in Place, Reaching Out
Northern Vermont keeps us grounded. The hills shift from green to gold to white, reminding us that growth happens season by season. We’re letting Elm Hill unfold the same way—carefully, deliberately.
“The store gave us the knowledge; the land gives us inspiration.”
At night we look toward the ridge—the line between past and future clear beneath the stars. Elm Hill stands right there, at the meeting point of experience and renewal.
